Tutorial: Creating a Focused Calendar View (Hiding Personal Events)
Posted: September 9, 2026 · 2 min read
Why focused views matter
When you have four or five calendars loaded in manyCalendars, the grid gets dense. Your dentist appointment at 3 PM does not need to compete for visual attention with your client standup at 3:30 PM. During work hours, you want to see work. During evenings and weekends, you want to see personal commitments. Focused views let you switch between these modes without removing any calendars.
How to toggle calendars
In manyCalendars's sidebar, each calendar has a visibility toggle. Click the toggle to hide or show that calendar's events on the grid. Hidden calendars are not deleted or disconnected. Their events are still tracked for conflict detection purposes. They are simply not displayed.
Creating a "work only" view: Toggle off your personal calendar. Toggle off any side-project or hobby calendars. Leave your client calendars visible. The grid now shows only professional commitments. This is ideal during working hours or when sharing your screen on a client call.
Creating a "personal only" view: Toggle off all client calendars. Leave your personal calendar visible. The grid now shows only personal events. This is useful on evenings and weekends when you do not want work events cluttering your view.
Creating a "single client" view: Toggle off everything except one client's calendar. This gives you a clean view for that client's meetings only. Useful when you need to review your schedule for a specific engagement without distractions from other roles.
Your active set persists
When you close and reopen manyCalendars, the visibility settings you last used are still in place. If you toggled off your personal calendar on Monday morning, it stays hidden until you toggle it back on. No need to reconfigure your view every time you open the extension.
This means you can set up a "work mode" on Monday morning and leave it until Friday evening, when you switch to "personal mode" for the weekend. The transition is two or three clicks in the sidebar.
Five calendars is a lot of visual noise. Focused views let you control what you see and when you see it. Get manyCalendars and start decluttering your calendar view in about 10 seconds.
